THE AVENUE JOURNAL
The Avenue is a Mid-Atlantic-based, print literary journal open to all things literary. We are committed to the aesthetic, the quirky, the dark, the tortured, the beautiful, the disenfranchised, and whatever else might motivate your craft.
We believe that the community of writers and artists is one that is necessary for any success in artistic endeavors. As such, we want anyone interested in submitting to be open to the idea of attending and participating in regional literary events around the publication of the issue.
When a new issue of The Avenue is released, we host readings in cities throughout the Mid-Atlantic and want our contributors to attend these events, meet one another, hear from readers and fellow writers, and see firsthand how their work has become part of this project.

Editor-In-Chief (he/him)
Chris Kosmides is a teacher and writer based in Baltimore, MD. He is the author of the novel, The Middlemen. He is the founder of the Hampden Writer’s Group. He currently teaches high school English and writing and has lectured at Towson University.
Senior Editor, Poetry (he/him)
Jonathan is a writer, educator and poetry editor of The Avenue Journal. He lives in Baltimore, Maryland, with his wife, son and their cat, who is named after a Pokémon.
Editor, Fiction (she/her)
Meri earned an MA in the Hopkins Writing Seminars, and her stories and poetry have been published in Baltimore CityPaper and the New Jersey Review. Her novel Wild Flowers is forthcoming from Watertower Press in 2025. Meri lives in Baltimore, Maryland, where she is a writer, editor, parent, spouse, and dedicated music fan.

Amelia was born and raised in Mississippi but now lives with her husband and children in the Baltimore area and teaches online with Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. She received a Master of Arts in English from Texas A&M University. Her fiction and nonfiction have appeared or are forthcoming in Image, Hippocampus, Peatsmoke Journal, Eclectica, Prime Number Magazine, Reckon Review, and other literary publications. She is currently working on a short story collection set in the Gulf coast town of Biloxi, Mississippi.

Dave Heilker is a writer of primarily speculative fiction. Born and raised in Baltimore, Dave works as a communications and design consultant for nonprofit and social advocacy organizations. He lives in Baltimore with his wife and their dog, Tomato. Dave built this website. If there’s something wrong with it, blame him.
